The chorus of " Crawling" originated from a demo called " Blue" and the beat from a demo called " Sky". " Super Zero" is different from "By Myself" from the 2-track demo version, with significantly different lyrics and Mike whispering "So, what do you think?" at the beginning. The version on this CD is believed to be recorded after the demo version on the LP Underground 12 CD (which is similar to this one but still different). " Points & Authority" came from a demo called "Oh No", which was released in the LP Underground X: Demos CD. According to Mike, his original beat for the song was scrapped and they had Rob record a new one right before they went into the studio. The version of " Untitled" on this CD was recorded after the version on the LP Underground 11 CD. The original CD sold on eBay in 2004 dated from January 7, 2000, but the most common copy among collectors dates from February 11, 2000. Because of this, the date on the CD doesn't necessarily relate to when the demos were recorded. Records as a sampler to promote the band before the release of their debut album, taking the best demos of each song and combining them. The fact that the CD has a "Promo Use Only" warning indicates that it was used by Warner Bros. It's unknown whether the spelling of "Super Zero" on the tracklist can be attributed to the band themselves or to miscommunication with the label.

After being availble in varying quality around the internet for many years, community member Energy obtained a copy of the CD and made a high quality rip available on LPFuse for free download as a Christmas present in 2004.
Evidence's remix, featuring Pharoahe Monch and DJ Babu, appears on Reanimation. A re-recorded version of "High Voltage", with a different chorus and some new lyrics, appears on the " One Step Closer" single and as a bonus track as well as on some versions of Linkin Park's debut album. "And One" and "Part of Me" were included on the 2008 Linkin Park compilation EP Songs from the Underground, released exclusively through Best Buy. Samples from that song are also featured in the remix for "Cure for the Itch", titled, "Kyur4 TH Ich" on Linkin Park's Reanimation remix album, and The X-Ecutioners' " It's Goin' Down". "Step Up" appeared on the " In the End, Pt. Some songs included on the EP appeared in later releases by Linkin Park. This song served as a basis for the song "Session" on Linkin Park's second album, Meteora. There is an untitled hidden track placed at the end of the EP, sometimes referred to as "Ambient" or "Secret". However, he did not stay for long and did not take part in the band's debut album. With Dave Farrell's temporary departure from the band to perform with Tasty Snax, Kyle Christener took over the bass position. An informal 'street team' developed from the on-line community to spread the music.
They began plugging the album in chat rooms and sending free copies to anyone who expressed interest.
Initial sales were merely a handful but the band persisted. The financing for the original pressing was obtained through a publishing deal with Zomba Music Publishing after one of its representatives, Jeff Blue, heard the band playing at the Whisky a Go Go. Original versions of the EP are hard to find. Only about 1,000 copies were pressed and released. Later that year, the band changed its name to Linkin Park and Hybrid Theory was re-mixed and remastered for another limited release in 2001 (with minor changes) in the credits and artwork for members of Linkin Park's fan club. The album was recorded and self-released in through Mix Media. Hybrid Theory is the first EP by Hybrid Theory, a previous name of the band Linkin Park.
